Why check for food intolerances?
Food intolerances can be responsible for a wide range of symptoms, ranging from headaches and migraines, bloating and IBS.
When your body does not react well with a certain food, it produces an immune response as a defence and creates antibodies (which is what causes the symptoms).
Every sample is tested twice for a wide range of popular foods, so you can be confident in your result and in making changes to your diet. 92% of customers see significant benefits, feeling healthier and having more energy.
You will receive an in-depth report and expert advice and support about how to eliminate and replace problem foods to reduce and eliminate symptoms. After 3 months you should be able to gradually reintroduce foods as part of a balanced, healthy diet.
We can also offer you a free 30 minute consultation if you wish to discuss your results with a qualified nutritionist.
View full detailsA food intolerance is when your body’s immune system has an adverse response to specific foods. Your body reacts badly to these foods because your immune system or digestive system are out of balance.
Research has shown that food sensitivities can be linked to IgG
antibodies that your body produces when these ‘problem’ foods are eaten. Normally these antibodies do not have any ill-effects, but if the immune or digestive system are not working at their best, they may cause a wide range of symptoms.
When your body is intolerant to a specific food, it generates an immune response and makes antibodies.
This BioSURE Food Intolerance Test detects your IgG 1,2,3 & 4 antibodies to a wide range of popular foods, which is one of the most advanced food intolerance tests available.
This test is classed as a guidline for food elimination and will only produce meaningful results if you are experiencing food intolerance/sensitivity symptoms.
Some symptoms of food sensitivity may be due to other health issues, and it is important to see a medical professional to rule these out.

Some food intolerance tests only detect IgG4, but we test for total IgG including all 4 subtypes. The EAACI (European Academy of Allergy and Immunology) guidelines states that testing for IgG4 is not recommended for the detection of delayed food allergies (www.ncbi.nlm. nih.gov/
pubmed/18489614)
The numbers on your results report represent the total IgG for each specific food.

Symptoms of food intolerance can be unpleasant, uncomfortable, embarrassing and sometimes debilitating.
Common symptoms can include headaches and migraines, dips in energy and bloating or IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
The most common symptoms of food intolerance include:
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
- Bloating
- Migraine
- Headache
- Lethargy / low energy levels
- Constipation
- Diarrhoea
- Flatulence
- Nausea
- Stomach cramps
- Abdominal pain
When you eat food, it moves through your digestive system and is broken down into its various parts, such as proteins (amino acids), sugars (glucose) and fats (fatty acids).
Usually these are absorbed through your gut, but if you have an intolerance your gut can become inflamed and the broken down molecules pass into your bloodstream. Your body sees these in the same way it would see any foreign body and begins an immune response, making antibodies to 'fight it off'
RED = ELEVATED
This means a high IgG antibody reaction was detected. These are the primary goods which should be eliminated from your diet for at least 3 months. You can replace them with Green foods from the same food group (explained in detail with your results)
YELLOW = BORDERLINE
This means a moderate antibody reaction was detected. These foods foods should be reduced and rotated, limiting to twice a week, for at least 3 months. These can also be replaced by Green foods in the same food group
GREEN = NORMAL
This means no significant reaction was detected. These foods can be eaten without restriction unless you know they have previously caused an adverse reaction.
Regardless of results, you should always avoid foods if you know you have a food allergy (Type 1 IgE antibody) to them.
Your BioSURE results report is easy to understand and comprises guidance and complementary nutritional support for understanding how to make remove your reactive foods, and improve gut health during the elimination period. You can then reintroduce the eliminated foods, gradually
and in a controlled manner.
Removal - Remove foods
which are ‘elevated’ and/or ‘borderline’ in your unique results report
Replacement -
Replace removed foods with alternatives of a similar nutritional content
Reinoculation – balancing
the gut microbiome then happens naturally and the symptoms subside
Reintroduce –
Detailed guidelines on how to reintroduce the eliminated foods from 3-6 months, gradually and in a controlled manner
Rebalance - Restore your healthy balance of gut bacteria
Food allergy is very different to food intolerance, even though both involve your immune system.
A food allergy, also called a Type 1 allergy, can be potentially life threatening and is when your body produces IgE antibodies which stimulate rapid histamine production. The reaction is usually immediate, certainly within 2 hours, and symptoms include hives, itchy eyes, swelling of lips and tongue, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting and anaphylaxis. This type of allergy requires immediate, emergency healthcare intervention.
A food intolerance, also called a Type 3 reation, is when your body has an immune response to specific foods, and produces IgG antibodies. Thankfully, unlike a food allergy, it is not life threatening. Symptoms can be debilitating though and really impact your life and wellbeing. They can include migraines and headaches, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, IBS and dips in energy.
Some foods may cause a classic allergic reaction involving the production of IgE antibodies (type I allergy) to food antigens or proteins in food. These will not be detected by the BioSURE Foor Intoernace Test as it detects IgG antibodies.
The majority of people experience an improvement in symptoms and their health after changing their diet based on their results.
A dedicated helpline is provided to give support and advice, along with access to a bank of qualified and accredited nutritionists.
Yes BioSURE Test results are recognised by your nutritionist and can help you have informed discussions.
When you do not have a reactive food in your diet, your gut has a chance to repair itself as the inflammation subsides, but there are foods you can eat and supportive supplements you can take to assist its repair -
- Probiotics
- Bone broth
- Fermented foods, such as kefir
- Oily fish, such as salmon and tuna
- Root vegetables, such as sweet potatoes
- Inulin (a natural prebiotic) rich foods, such as leeks and potatoes
No. After you have eliminated the reactive foods for 3 months you can reintroduce them gradually, 1 portion every 5 days, 1 food at a time, so you can pinpoint any reactions and stop eating it again.
It is best to start with the least elevated food and make sure you monitor any symptoms before reintroducing the next food.
It is always best to eat foods in moderation and maintain a varied and balanced diet, without eating any one food too regularly.
If, after changing your diet according to the test results, improvements have not been
achieved after 3 months, food sensitivity may not be the only cause of your symptoms
and other investigations should be undertaken by your healthcare practitioner
