Why test for HIV?
Treatments now are so good, that with an early diagnosis and correct anti-viral treatment that is taken regularly, the virus can be suppressed to such low levels it becomes undetectable. This means that that not only is your own health protected so that you can live a long and healthy life, but incredibly, you can't pass it on.
Undetectable equals Untransmittable (U=U) is a global movement to help educate people about how treatable HIV is and help to end the epidemic. BioSure is a proud U=U partner.
But to know if you need to take treatment, your first step is to test. Because if you don't test, you don't know - and if you don't know, you can't treat.
What is the HIV Window Period?
Everyone produces antibodies at different rates, dependinh upon their immune system.
About half of people have produced antibodies to HIV (seroconverted) by 4 weeks after transmission. This goes up to about 95% of people by 6 weeks, but some people make their antibodies up to 12 weeks after transmission.
This is why you can test from 4 weeks after possible exposure, and although encouraging, you must not rely on a negative result until 12 weeks after exposure.
A positive test result is always a positive test result regardless of the window period.

Why should I test regularly
Some people have a single possible exposure to HIV whilst others may make choices that mean that could have more frequent risk of exposure.
Testing regularly for HIV, in the same way as you would regularly visit a dentist, means that you stay in control and can be confident in the choices that you make.
As we can't stop shouting, HIV is a treatable condition and the earlier it is diagnosed the better the outcome.
